Characteristics of Urban Development

By introducing advanced urban systems and by formulating an environmental design manual, Makuhari New City aims at urban development in harmony with its environment.

Urban development in Makuhari New City puts stress on preserving a pleasant urban environment through a variety of modern amenities such as district heating and cooling systems powered by natural gas and electricity; pneumatic garbage collection systems; a water recycling system in which water treated in the plant is used in toilets and fountains etc.; electrical cables and water pipes installed in underground utility tunnels; elevated walk ways; and underground parking garages that make efficient use of the space beneath parks.

In an effort to create and maintain a harmonious urban environment, we have formulated an environmental design manual that sets standards for urban facilities such as roads, parks, and greenbelts; and this manual has been applied to building designs and the use of land.
